Peterson Homes are doing their bit for the environment.
We are making our homes more energy efficient, which means lower fuel
bills.
This
is becoming a key selling point for major homebuilders, who regularly have to
face criticisms that their products lack character and originality.
A survey produced by Halifax and the House Builders' Federation cited
energy efficiency as being almost as big a plus for buyers as getting a house
which needed no work doing on it.
In
1995 the building regulations were changed to include SAPs,
Standard Assessment Procedures,
as a measure of energy efficiency.
SAPs
are a straightforward indication of whether energy is being used to efficiently
heat space and water. The higher
the score, the more energy efficient the property.
A score of 35 is average for all homes.
This reflects the fact that older homes cost more to heat, as they are
less energy efficient. A score of
70 is good and 80 or above is excellent.
SAPs differ from a National Home Energy Ratings as they take into
account the type of lighting installed, the cooking fuel and the property's
location.
So anyone buying a new home or conversion should ask about energy
efficiency, it means hard cash savings.
